COMPREHENSIVE WATER SEWER IMPACT FEE STUDY

Due Date: Ongoing

Walton County is located in northwest Florida and stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to the Alabama state line. US Highway 331 is the only north-south corridor in the County. A twenty two (22) mile section (corridor) of this roadway is slated for a major expansion project (from 2 to 4 lanes) over the next three years. The County anticipates this expansion will facilitate and expedite commercial growth along this corridor. In order to support such growth, water and sewer infrastructure must be established. Currently, there is limited water and sewer capacity within a portion of the project, but woefully insufficient to support the anticipated growth. Preliminary engineering estimates for needed water and sewer infrastructure improvements are in excess of thirty million dollars. Walton County is currently exploring all options to fund these improvements, including impact fees. The County has determined that appropriate impact fees may be a prudent and necessary mechanism to address the costs associated with this project.
