Recreational Therapy for Youth in Corrections

Recreational therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is a systematic process that utilizes recreation and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals with illnesses and/or disabling conditions as a means to improve psychological and physical health, recovery and well-being. Recreational therapy is an action-oriented therapy that uses activity analysis and mental or physical involvement to build life management skills. Through health and wellness, clients learn to reduce or eliminate activity limitations and restrictions while enhancing their ability to participate in and manage life situations.
